Process
Virgin Welcome Lounge Gatwick
The main reception desk at the Virgin Welcome Lounge Gatwick, we were given a 3D concept drawing and a set of section drawings, from this we re-drew the layout of each ellipse layer, section by section, and along with carful material selection of different thicknesses of mdf we were able to create what our client was after, we were now in a position to start machining.
Once we had machined all the individual layer sections, we were then able to dry fit the layers together to confirm the concept against the drawings.
After the sections were glued and screwed in place, we began the lengthy task of preparation, for spraying the top coat. The process entailed spraying an A/C two pack primer to seal all edges and surfaces with de-nibbing in between each coat, this process was repeated 4-5 times until all edges and surfaces were smooth and ready to receive two final coats of A/C top coat lacquer 20% sheen.
After leaving the desk to fully dry and harden off, we fitted the 10mm toughened glass top and the stainless steel cable management covers to add to the finishing touches.
